A Collection of Bugs

Another piece from The Palincest Mine.
Because the project was about different layers of thing I wanted to do an illustration of a few members of the bug kingdom.

Also once I'd done the all illustrations I wanted to have little labels under each bug with their latin names on and the wee dust mite ended up having the longest name which was an added humour bonus.
The little blighter.

The Cave of Wonders

Another Palincest diamond in the rough.

For ages I wanted to do an illustration of a friendly vampire bat because I always thought they've got a bad rep thanks to Bram Stoker and the like. For this image I was thinking about the fact it would be a  screen printed illustration, so I made the main smiling bat's colour quite flat and the background hanging bats just silhouettes.

Aura Bearealis

Another shining light in the Palincest heavens.

For the Palincest project I wanted to have a selection of different animal habitats and because I was doing this illustration through the festive period and enjoying the awesome BBC's Frozen planet (narrated by David Attenborough aka God) I wanted to do something with polar bears/cold and I thought what if the Inuits believed that the aura borealis came from a great bear, lighting up the sky with it's magic.

A Totem of Masks

Another brick in the Palincest wall.

For the Palincest I wanted to experiment with different styles and illustrate animals in different ways. For my mind work quite mathematically I wanted to make each animal of the Totem Pole quite symmetrical.

The animals are (from left to right, up to down): Eagle, Elephant, Monkey, Gorilla, Piranha, Walrus, Bear, Penguin, Killer Whale, Lion, Shark and Dear.
